F irefox is no doubt a great Browser, but one thing it really lacks at its default state is a good looking transparent theme under Windows Vista or Windows 7. The default theme is pretty classic type and really does not look that much good under the cool Aero theme of Windows 7 or Vista.
So like me, if you are too a transparent theme lover then here is a cool pair of add-ons to make your Firefox look cool under Win7 or Vista platform. You can take a look at the screenshot above to guess what we are going to turn Firefox into! Basically, with thousands of add-ons exclusive for Mozilla Firefox there is nothing which can not be done to customize this small little beast into your way! So here is what we really need to do…
Glasser Add-on for Firefox
Basically this small [really small, only 70KB] piece of Add-on alone is capable to add Vista or Win7 like transparent frame in Firefox Toolbar. Simply install it and see the difference.
Note that if you are using the current stable version of Firefox 3.0.10 then you have to install a previous version of this add-on, as the current one is for Firefox beta. Don’t worry, just follow the steps:
- Go to the add-on page mentioned Above and click on “An older version may Work”
- Simply install the version 1.0.16 and you are done.
- Now restart your Firefox and see the difference.
Personal Menu for Firefox:
Just after installing the Glasser Add-on you should notice that under the cool Transparent Layout of your New [Well not actually new] Firefox, the classical File | Edit | View | Tool | Help | Menu looks really odd. So, its time to remove them and compact them in a cool button lying side by side to your Firefox Address bar. Just download and install this Add-on from the link below…
Now that you have installed this add-on , you should notice that upon first customization, your Personal Menu Add-on will automatically add the Bookmark menu and History Menu in two cool button as shown below.
So now its time to compact the classical Toolbar also. Simply follow these steps…

- Now on the Edit Menu Tab Select each and every Toolbar Menus and click on the green + icon as shown below. Make sure that your settings are exactly same as in the image above. Do this for all the items and click OK.
You are done customizing. Enjoy the new looks of your Firefox.
Google Chrome type New Tab page for Firefox:
It was discussed before here @
greenTechspot. You need to install Google Toolbar beta to be able to use similar New tab page showcase like Chrome. Simply install Google Toolbar beta to enjoy this feature from the link below.
Also to know more about this have a look at this post.
All-Glass Firefox Toolbar for beta user
If you use Firefox 3.1 beta or so then you don’t need to install these add-ons. There is a superior add-on available for this for beta users by Ambroos. Check it here at neoforum. You will surely love this add-on.
Caution: Do NOT install this add-on on Firefox 3.0.10 stable version! The result will be ugly [I myself has tested it]
That’s it! I hope you have liked these add-ons. If you have been using any other add-on to make your Firefox transparent then please share with us! Also your feedbacks and comments will be highly appreciable!
Thanks to Lifehacker for these cool Add-ons
